Empowering Futures: The Kadam Education Initiative

The Kadam Education Initiative (KEI) is a transformative program by the Centre for Development (CfD), established in 1996 by Meera Malek. Originally focused on ending child labor in Ahmedabad's urban communities, KEI has evolved to address deeper issues affecting girls, particularly those from single-parent households.

In these underprivileged communities, daughters of widowed, divorced, or abandoned women often face neglect, abuse, and forced labor. Many girls are forced to drop out of school or face early marriages. KEI is dedicated to reversing these harsh realities by providing educational opportunities and support to help these girls stay in school and build brighter futures. Through heart-to-heart engagements with families and a commitment to education, KEI is changing lives and offering hope where it’s needed most.

Join us in supporting this vital cause and making a difference in the lives of young girls.

KEI is an integral programme of the Centre for Development (CfD - https://www.cfdngo.org/), which was founded as a child-centric organization in 1996 by Meera Malek. Her work in the underprivileged urban communities in Ahmedabad commenced as an initiative to end child labour; the young activist learned the complexity of the situation. CfD started addressing the basic causes that led to child labour; the struggle of the households to make two ends meet; lack of education and deprivation of the advantages that education might have provided in their lives.
