Alan’s Inspiring Journey: Overcoming Adversity and Creating Hope Through Gaming

When Alan was just ten years old, his world was turned upside down. After losing hearing in his right ear and experiencing facial paralysis, his family discovered that he had embryonal rhabdomyosarcoma, a rare and aggressive cancer. Alan’s journey through treatment was daunting.

“My mother explained the situation to me as going to battle against a little monster in my ear,” Alan recalls. The intense chemotherapy and radiation therapy left him battling severe side effects, including alternating cold and heat sensations, and an overwhelming sense of nausea. During these grueling months, Alan’s world became confined to hospital rooms and isolation.

However, Alan’s resilience shone through. To combat his loneliness, he immersed himself in video games, finding solace and distraction in Roblox and online communities. This period of isolation sparked a profound realization: if he survived, he wanted to create something that could offer the same joy to other children facing similar battles.

Determined to keep his promise to himself, Alan dove into the world of game development. He taught himself the intricacies of building, scripting, and designing video games. Today, Alan is studying computer engineering and physics at Pepperdine University and has developed several games for Roblox and Minecraft platforms.

Alan’s latest project, “Pandemic Panacea,” is a testament to his dedication. This game is designed specifically for children with cancer, aiming to connect them with new friends and provide a sense of community through shared tasks and adventures. His goal is to create a virtual space where kids can find support and joy, just as he did during his own treatment.

Alan’s story is one of incredible courage and compassion. His journey from a cancer survivor to a game developer reflects a powerful commitment to making a difference in the lives of others. We can’t wait to see how “Pandemic Panacea” will bring hope and connection to children around the world.
